How it works

How to convert VTT to SRT

  1. 01

    Choose your VTT file

Drop the .vtt file in the box. The converter finds the WEBVTT header and reads every cue.

  2. 02

    Keep SRT selected

SRT is already chosen in the Convert to menu. Sign in for free to see the preview.

  3. 03

    Download the SRT

Save the .srt file, then import it into your video editor or upload it with your video.

What changes from VTT to SRT

Each cue gets a number, starting at 1. Times switch to a comma before the milliseconds. The WEBVTT line goes, and so do NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks, because SRT has no place for them.

Cue position settings

A VTT cue can carry settings such as line or align after its end time. SRT has no such settings, so the converter leaves them out. The words and the timing stay the same.

Need to know

Common questions

Many video editors and upload forms ask for SRT. Converting gives you a file they can open.

Inline tags such as bold and italic stay in the text. STYLE blocks and cue position settings are dropped, because SRT cannot hold them.
