How it works

How to convert SRT to VTT

  1. 01

    Choose your SRT file

Drop the .srt file in the box. The converter reads it in your browser and counts the subtitles.

  2. 02

    Keep VTT selected

VTT is already chosen in the Convert to menu. Sign in for free and the preview shows the finished file.

  3. 03

    Download the VTT

Save the .vtt file and add it to your video player as a subtitle track. You can also copy the text.

What changes from SRT to VTT

The file gets a WEBVTT line at the top. Times use a full stop before the milliseconds, so 00:00:01,500 becomes 00:00:01.500. The cue numbers from the SRT are left out, because a VTT file does not need them.

When you need a VTT file

The HTML video element loads subtitles as WebVTT through its track tag. If your website or player asks for a .vtt file, convert your SRT first and upload the result.
